SOUND LAYERING

Discussion started by Todd Brown , on 03 May 04:51 PM
When you create a template for a song now days it usually is an empty sequence with some general sounds, maybe some sampled drums. You can star off with a hi-hat for instance, that sounds very typical and thin, what I suggest is that you layer every sound you start with and as you go, add a second hi-hat,tambourine and a shaker all on one key trigger, other words set up your hardware or program to play all the sounds by your touching a single key, drum pad, midi instrument. Then once you done that slightly pan each of those instruments in the mix to your desire, then add more percussion as you normally get to building your rhythm section, you know like the Kick,2 Kick,808 Kick,Sample Kick,Dirty scratchy Kick,909 Thump Kick and so on. This technique is very useful with all instruments as well, bass lines, chords, guitars, leads etc. Your music will have more fidelity and more dynamics.
